Summer Solstice Ritual Oil

If you’re looking for a magical tool to uplift you during the summer season, then a ritual oil could be the perfect ally for you!
The summer solstice marks the sun’s highest point, creating the longest day and shortest night of the year. Light is overpowering the dark, so this is a great time to confront your shadows and integrate that part of yourself. A summer solstice ritual oil can support and empower you in this process by connecting you with elements of the earth and also with the solar energy of the sun.
A ritual oil can also uplift your intentions and magical workings throughout this season. We’ve created a summer solstice ritual oil recipe just for you!
Ingredients
- Intention
- Amber Glass Bottle (we’re using a dropper bottle)
- Incense or Herbs for Cleansing
- Summer Herbs (we’re using St. johns wort, calendula, chamomile, lemon balm)
- A Carrier Oil
Making your Oil
Start by cleansing your bottle, your herbs, and your carrier oil. We used an incense stick so that we could cleanse inside the bottle too! Hold your intention in your mind’s eye while cleansing and preparing your ingredients. For example, “May this oil support my magical workings and amplify my manifestations during the summer season.”
Next, we added our herbs to our bottle. We chose herbs that are in season and in alignment with the summer solstice. To scoop our herbs, we chose to use our brass sun spoon, which represents solar energy. Using intentional magical tools can amplify your practice!
Lastly, we added our carrier oil. We chose olive oil because it was on hand! You can easily make ritual oils with items from your apothecary and kitchen pantry. Let your oil steep in a cool and dark place for at least a week.
Tip: If you want your oil to have maximum longevity, try making it in a jar first. Then, after it has been sitting for your desired time, strain it and decant the oil into your container. Straining your herbs will allow you to keep the oil beyond the summer season!
